Welcome

Staithes is a romantic and historic fishing village 10 miles north of Whitby, and was once home to Captain Cook.

The old village nestles under steep cliffs, sheltering from the North Sea behind its harbour walls, and spreading along Roxby Beck where traditional Yorkshire cobles and 'double-enders' are moored during the summer months.

It has winding cobbled streets, a honeycomb of lanes, yards and steps, clean beaches, superb coastal scenery and beautiful walks.

The village, which is on the Cleveland Way, is also within easy reach of Scarborough, York and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Only 5 miles away is the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and the picturesque village of Goathland, where the TV series 'Heartbeat' is recorded: the first 'Harry Potter' was also filmed in this area.
