| Backing up your data is an essential
task on your computer. The type of backup and frequency of backup is a personal
choice. However I would RECOMEND a daily
backup, a weekly and a monthly backup. |
||
|
The reason why I
suggest the above routine is based on many years of experience.
|
||
| Daily backups are essential to ensure that you have a copy of the last 24 hours input, | ||
| Weekly backups are essential occasionally a file becomes corrupt and each day you backup the corrupt file overwrittin you last good copy | ||
| Monthly backups ensure that files accessed on a monthly basis have a copy in case a file becomes corrupt and each dayor week you have backuped the corrupt file and overwrittin you last good copy | ||
| Photos music collections etc should be stored
in TWO places One on CD/DVD and also on your computer. You can always recreate a document or a spreadsheet but you can never recover a photograph of an event |
||
| I use a backup system which is off site via the
internet. For those with BT as their internet provider ther is Digital Vault and you should use it For those with other ISPs I suggest Idrive Contact me for details |
||
| My final word on backup is that you make frequent
checks that what you want backed up is backed up and that you know how to
recover a file/files I had a client who insisted that they backed up every day. When I CHECKED the logs their backup had failed for the previous 6 months |
